Military Videos of the World – 5 Cool Things from Movies the Military Would Love for Real.

What if science fiction was science fact?

Earlier this week Boeing announced that it had successfully tested its new generation of missile which remotely destroys all of the electrical equipment in a target area using high powered radio waves. Boeing’s programme manager, Keith Coleman, said: “Today we turned science fiction into science fact.”

The natural response to this is create a list of the top 5 coolest military gadgets that the military wishes it could own in the real world. So here’s our list of the 5 best things Hollywood has to offer:

1. Batman Begins (2005)

In the latest incarnation of the Batman franchise, Christian Bale’s masked superhero sports the most sophisticated armoured vehicle the silver screen has ever seen. It’s a Batmobile that Adam West’s camp creation would have been envious of, as are most of the tank drivers serving the world over today.

2. Star Wars (1977)

President Obama seems to think the bayonet has gone out of fashion in military circles but don’t forget that a long time ago in a galaxy far, far away the lightsaber was the weapon of choice. I bet a few Generals wouldn’t mind adding the flashing blue weapon of impermeable light to their military arsenals nowadays given the choice.

3. The Spy Who Loved Me (1977)

James Bond’s Lotus Esprit S1 has the handy knack of turning into a submarine if and when required. Granted, the fully amphibious vehicle would be for the more debonair squaddie more suited to an exotic location in the south of France and not the plains of Afghanistan, but it would be a useful addition to the military’s vehicle fleet nonetheless.

4. Iron Man (2008)

Well, take your pick. From his impenetrable armour to his jetpack-powered feet, Iron Man (AKA Tony Stark, AKA Robert Downey Jr.) is the living, breathing embodiment of a military masterpiece.

5. Back to the Future: Part II (1989)

Marty McFly’s hoverboard is still the envy of, well, I think everyone in the world. While militaries are busy thinking about the best spec for the new reconnaissance and scout vehicles they need, the hoverboard could provide a useful alternative.

Thanks Hollywood. Military scientists, over to you.
